Privacy Policy

Effective July 21, 2026

Onlink is a network-connectivity utility for macOS. Onlink does not require an account, include advertising, use analytics, operate a developer data server, sell personal information, or send your local connection history to the developer.

Information stored on your Mac

Onlink stores app data in its sandboxed container on your Mac:

Onlink automatically prunes records older than these retention periods. Local interface addresses are read from your Mac when needed and are not sent to the developer.

Network requests

Onlink makes outgoing HTTPS and secure WebSocket connections only for the functions described below. A service contacted over the internet necessarily receives technical network information such as the connecting public IP address, request time, and protocol metadata. Those services process information under their own policies.

Connectivity monitoring

Onlink normally sends an HTTPS HEAD request to www.apple.com every 20 seconds and when macOS reports a network-path change. If that request fails, Onlink sends the same type of request to www.cloudflare.com as a fallback. These checks determine whether the internet appears reachable. Onlink does not measure or display endpoint latency.

Optional public IP and provider lookup

This feature is disabled by default. If you enable it in Settings → General → Privacy & data, Onlink requests network metadata from speed.cloudflare.com/meta. If the response does not contain the needed information or Cloudflare is unavailable, Onlink may request ipinfo.io/json as a fallback. The returned public IP, provider, and ASN are displayed locally and are not sent to the developer.

Cloudflare speed test

After you choose to start a Cloudflare test and accept the first-use disclosure, Onlink downloads test data from speed.cloudflare.com/__down and uploads generated test data to speed.cloudflare.com/__up. The test can use substantial bandwidth. Cloudflare receives the connecting public IP address and technical request metadata. Onlink stores the completed result locally.

Measurement Lab speed test

M-Lab NDT7 tests are optional and require consent before the first test. Onlink contacts locate.measurementlab.net/v2/nearest/ndt/ndt7 to find available servers, then connects to the selected M-Lab server over secure WebSockets for download and upload measurement. Measurement Lab retains and publicly publishes test measurements, including the client public IP address, according to its own data practices. Onlink limits this provider to four tests per local calendar day and stores the completed result locally.

Notifications and launch at login

Connection-change notifications are optional. Permission is requested only when you enable the feature, and notification delivery is handled locally by macOS. Launch at Login is also optional and is managed through macOS system services.

Tracking and advertising

Onlink does not track you across apps or websites and does not use information for advertising or marketing.

Managing and deleting local data

You can disable public IP and provider lookup at any time in Settings → General → Privacy & data. Other preferences can be changed individually in Onlink Settings, and notification permission can be changed in macOS System Settings.

The release version of Onlink does not currently include an in-app “erase all data” or consent-reset button. To remove all Onlink records, preferences, and stored consent choices, quit Onlink, remove the app, and delete its sandbox container at ~/Library/Containers/com.hoangbkit.onlink. Removing this container cannot delete information independently retained by Apple, Cloudflare, IPinfo, or Measurement Lab.

Children

Onlink is a general-purpose utility and is not directed to children. The developer does not knowingly request personal information from children.

Changes

Material changes to this policy will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
